The “Fizzy drink free Tokelau” wins the award as it demonstrated all the aspects of a Healthy Islands initiative, according to an email from World Health Organization’s Technical Officer – Non-Communicable Diseases, Dr Wendy Snowdon.
The Ulu o Tokelau, Aliki Faipule Siopili Perez is expected to receive the award on behalf of the Government of Tokelau at an official ceremony hosted by World Health Organisation at the Shangri-La Fijian Hotel in Nadi, Fiji when he attends the Health Minister’s meeting this week.
The WHO Healthy Island's Recognition Award is awarded bi-annually to recognize work in the Pacific carried out by health and community leaders to achieve the vision of Healthy Islands.
