Stamps and Coins Providing a Growing Income for Tokelau

2 April 2015

Stamps and Commemorative coins are providing Tokelau with a growing income, receiving a little bit more every year as a result of the growing international demand.

The Tokelau stamps and legal tender coinage under the managing programs, started five to six years ago, and have reached more than NZ$70k already this FY2015 – a little more than expected, according to, Lise Suveinakama, coordinator of the programmes.

“The programmes are in slow progress but are improving especially for the coins. It is receiving more than it did many, many years ago”, Lise said.

The Tokelau Commemorative Coins Program is being managed exclusively by the Australian Coin Company, Treasures of Oz Pty Ltd. The Tokelau Stamps Program is being managed by the NZ Post Stamp and Coins Business. Both programmes operate under management agreements with the Government of Tokelau.

The agreement highlights an annual income received per year with designs of coins and stamps to incorporate the Queens Effigy especially for the legal tender coinage with desire designs and images by Tokelau.

All commemorative legal coin designs approved, is with consent by her majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.
