Tokelau Partake at the 2015 South Pacific Games with Squash

26 May 2015

Tokelau National Sports Federation will partake with Squash at the 2015 South Pacific Games held in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea in July.

Sam Iasona, New Zealand base squash player will be representing Tokelau, accompanied by his coach, Graig Schofield at the games.

The lack of team participating at this year’s regional sporting event was due to lack of preparation time and the availability of athletes.

“The lack of Tokelauan athletes’ participation in the pacific games this year was mainly due to not only the lack of preparations but also other priorities for development activities happening in the villages. This is an important lesson for Tokelau Sports, it is important that athletes are organised and better prepared for regional games”, says  Lise Suveinakama.

General Fono had approved funding at the meeting held in Nukunonu in February earlier this year.

Tokelau rugby sevens and swimming represented the nation at the last Pacific Games held in Noumea, New Caledonia 2013.

The 2015 Team Tokelau will also include the National Sports President, Viliamu Iosefa and National Sports Secretary Kilisitina Lafaele.
