The Tokelau Sport has won the “Sport Matters” International photo competition by entering a uniquely Tokelauan photo.

The competition attracted 20 entries that 15,000 people from around the world have viewed on Facebook to date.

"The winning photo captures a cultural performance during the Tokelau National Games 2013 with the theme 'Be Strong for Our Future - Share the Moment'".

"Tokelau is thrilled with the win..., said Susan Perez, the Tokelau National Sports Coordinator".

“The National games have become a highlight in Tokelau’s calendar. With a competitive sport programme, maintaining our fellowship, cultural values and traditions are equally important”, she added.

“The theme of the Sport Matters International photo competition, ‘Inspire.Unite.Change’, was for images to capture how sport has inspired, united or changed a community. Thousands of people viewed the competition, so it was a great opportunity to promote Tokelau and it’s Youth”, Susan said.

The three top places were officially announced at the Sport Matters Conference ‘Island Style’ Dinner at the Brisbane City Hall on 30 September 2014.

The winning ‘2013 Tokelau National Games’ photo claimed 300 votes on Face book. Second place went to Girls at Government Primary School Ngele’ia from Tonga, with Female rugby players of Laos in the Xieng Khouangh Province running third.

The winner is to receive a Go-Pro camera.
