POSITION: DIRECTOR OF HEALTH, TOKELAU
PURPOSE
Applications are invited for the position of Director of Health, Department of Health, within the Tokelau Public Services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The main duties and responsibilities of the Director of Health include:
- To provide leadership for the development and improving health services in Tokelau and for maintaining and improving the standards of health services in Tokelau
- To provide sound advice to the leadership of Tokelau for the development and maintenance of effective health services in Tokelau
- To manage the key relationship with village leaders, health committees, external organisations, General Manager – Apia, and national Senior Management Team
- Oversee the overall operation and management of the Health Department - which include, budget; training and recruitment of health workers; patient referral scheme; department, regional and international funded projects; and department policies - in order to provide high quality support and services to the three Taupulega to benefit the health of the residents of Tokelau
- To ensure that residents of Tokelau requiring secondary and tertiary health services are referred for appropriate diagnosis and treatment in Samoa and New Zealand.
EXPERIENCE
The successful applicant will have to satisfy the following criteria:
- Well developed consultative and motivational style of leadership
- Proven health management, planning, policy development and organisational skills and experience
- Ability to maximise the use of resources for the benefit of the health of the residents of Tokelau
- Highly develop communication skills and strong community and public health focus
- Awareness of and sensitive to Tokelau culture and customs (knowledge of Tokelau culture is preferred but not essential)
- Tertiary qualification, ideally in the health area.
SALARY
The salary is negotiable depending on qualifications and experience.
The position is based in Tokelau and will require regular traveling to Apia. The contract will be for a 3 years term and will report to the Minister of Health and General Manager, Apia/National.
