Ulu o Tokelau at American Samoa's 116th Flag Day Anniversary

The Ulu o Tokelau, Aliki Faipule Afega Gaualofa left for American Samoa today to attend the territory's 116th Flag Day Anniversary.

The theme for the 2016 Flag Day is "Our People, Our Culture, and Our Future" to underscore the vibrancy of American Samoa's islands, cultural values and traditions despite its political status.

Tokelau and American Samoa signed an MoU in 2013 pledging to work together on issues of Climate Change, Capacity Development and Economic Development.

Faipule Gaualofa plans to meet with the Governor of American Samoa during the Flag Day celebrations. He will be attending Sunday Evening Service with other dignitaries attending the auspicious occasion including His Highness the Head of State of Samoa.

The Faipule Gaualofa will also be attending the Flag Day Ceremony on Monday 18 April before returning to Apia on Tuesday 19 April. Mrs Kilita Gaualofa is attending the Flag Day Celebrations with him.

Update, 20 April 2016

Faipule Afega returns to Apia on Wednesday 20 April (local date) following bilateral talks with the Governor of American Samoa.

He congratulated American Samoa for the huge amount of effort, time and resources dedicated by the Government and people of the territory of American Samoa in well spirited and befitting celebrations.

It is a significant milestone for the people of American Samoa.
