High Court’s decision signals Tokelau moving forward

15.08.2019 - The Ulu o Tokelau, Kelihiano Kalolo has welcomed the decision by Tokelau’s High Court and immediately called an urgent meeting of Council to discuss the decision to follow up matters instructed by the Court.

Invoking the Tokelauan proverb Agi malu mai ko Te Tokelau, ke momoli ai taku fekau[Calling on the calm wind ‘Te Tokelau’ to deliver my message], “I want to specially thank our servants of all church denominations, our elders and the people of Tokelau at home and abroad for all your prayers, hope for peace and sincere support for a peaceful court hearing.

“We respect the decision of the Courts and Tokelau can now move forward,” he stated from Auckland transiting to Tokelau after attending the 50th Pacific Island Leaders’ Forum in Tuvalu.

“The court case is the first test of the various aspects, strength and weaknesses of our Tokelau laws and the lessons we have gained will help us grow a better future.”
