Ulu o Tokelau attends Pacific Forum Foreign Ministers to strengthen regional preparedness

The Ulu o Tokelau, Aliki Faipule Siopili Perez is currently attending the Pacific Islands Forum Foreign Ministers Meeting (FFAMM) last week in Sydney, from 9 to 10 July, 2015 focusing on regional preparedness and coordination on disaster management.
 
Foreign Ministers attending the meeting will discuss opportunities to strengthen national leadership though supportive regional responses to natural hazards, drawing on lessons from the recent experiences of Cyclone Pam and Typhoon Maysak in Vanuatu and the Federated States of Micronesia, amongst other hazards such as volcanoes, floods, tsunamis and earthquakes. In addition, opportunities for regional initiatives to complement national efforts to build resilience and mitigate the effects of disasters in the Pacific will be an important part of the discussions. Access to finance for disaster preparedness, response and recovery will be a theme throughout. The outcomes of the World Humanitarian Summit, recently held in Auckland, New Zealand, will provide an important backdrop for the ministerial meeting.
 
In attending the Meeting, the Ulu o Tokelau met with other leaders and Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the region. Tokelau is an Associate Member of the Pacific Islands Forum.
