The Tokelau National Statistics Office is a part of the Office of Council for the Ongoing Government of Tokelau and the key provider of official statistics to the Government of Tokelau.
Our goal is to give Tokelau the statistical information it needs to grow and prosper. We aim to tell the story of Tokelau through relevant, accessible and trustworthy statistics, and operate under the Statistics Rules (2013).

Our operating Rules
On Wednesday, 23 October 2013, the General Fono endorsed the Statistics Rules 2013 in their final reading. The Statistics Rules describe the responsibilities and functions of the TNSO, and the wider official statistical system.
These responsibilities and functions include the:
- collection, processing, analysis, publication, and dissemination of statistical information on social, demographic, economic, and financial activities in Tokelau
- coordination and integration of statistical activities across government, in accordance with recognised international statistical standards
- responsibility of the TNSO to coordinate statistical activities.

Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics
It is critical that a statistical system has the confidence of national and international users of statistics. To this end the United Nations developed a set of fundamental principles for official statistics. On 18 April 2013, the Council for the Ongoing Government of Tokelau endorsed the
Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics. The Principles are employed as high-level policy for the Office's statistical activities, and harmonised to Tokelau’s unique situation. They provide guidance to, and inform discussions between the Office, government, data users, and respondents.
