Director of Economic Development, Natural Resources and Environment

DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT NATURAL RESOURCES AND ENVIRONMENT (“EDNRE”)

The Department of EDNRE's vision of “Tokelau’s Environment Security Is Strategic National Security”
encapsulates the strong wishes of the people of Tokelau to be able to withstand the challenges brought about
by traditional global environmental and climate changes.

To lead the department, applications are invited from interested, suitably qualified and experienced candidates
to the position of Director. The Director is accountable for the leadership and management of the department
operations, leads the implementation of Tokelau strategic priorities in the economic development, natural
resources and agriculture sectors, advises the Tokelau leadership on related developments and ensure effective
planning and monitoring of sector projects.

Key duties and responsibilities;

The Director is responsible for undertaking the following;

• Manage and oversee operations of the Department.
• Provide key coordination, advisory, planning and monitoring functions for the Government relating to the
  Tokelau economic development, natural resource and its environment.
• Coordinate economic initiatives maximizing Tokelau’s revenue while protecting the environment.

The successful applicant will be assessed according to the following criteria;

• A degree (preferably at postgrad level) in Environmental Science, Economic Development or a relevant
  field.
• Minimum 5 years relevant experience preferably in the Pacific Region
• Senior level management experience in economic development and/or environmental management
• Strategic thinker with the ability to recognize the impact of Tokelau’s strategic direction and how it
  interfaces with transport, shipping and support services
• Proven high standard of written and oral communication in English (Tokelauan desirable)
• Awareness of Tokelau culture with the ability to operate effectively within that cultural context without
compromising the remit of the role

The position is a fixed-term of 3 years and will be based in Atafu where the department main office is located.

Salary will in accordance with the Tokelau Public Service Remuneration Framework.
