Director of the Ministry for Climate, Ocean and Resilience (MiCORe)

Applications are now open from suitably qualified and experienced applicants to the position of Director of MiCORe. The
Director is responsible for overseeing, managing and coordinating Tokelau’s climate change, ocean, disaster and
resilience programmes, as well as facilitating Tokelau goals of being a recognised leader on climate change.

The successful applicant will be based in Tokelau.


Key duties and responsibilities:

a) Lead and manage department operations
b) Policy advice and formulation
c) Workforce management and development
d) Relationship management
e) Coordinate climate change, disaster, ocean, resilience programmes


The successful applicant will be assessed according to the following criteria:

a) Academic qualification (preferably a Master degree) from a recognised institution in a relevant field (environmental management, climate                change, social science or similar).
b) Minimum of 5 yrs senior level experience in a leadership role in any of following areas - climate change, oceans and disaster management in a      governmental or multilateral organisation.
c) Significant experience in project design, management and reporting, and financial management.
d) Strategic thinker with proven experience in stakeholder management especially in culturally sensitive environments.
e) Knowledge of climate change policy issues in a developing country context, particularly in the Pacific region.
f) Awareness of the Tokelau culture with the ability to operate effectively within that cultural context without compromising the remit of the position.
g) Proven high standard of written and oral communication in English (Tokelauan desirable).


The successful applicant will be employed on a fixed term 3 year contract. A salary package will be negotiated with the
successful candidate in accordance with to the approved Tokelau Public Service Remuneration Framework and practices.
